Last week was another another turning point for me about media, information, and my damned mental health. 

For some hours, it seemed WW3 was imminent. 

Notifications crammed my phone, Twitter went crazy and my Instagram feed had nothing else but WW3 on it. 

The headlines were clear, Russia had sent two missiles to Poland, a country in NATO, and so the western allies would have to respond. Basically, the US was now involved directly in a war against Russia. 

Why did the US have to respond? Article 4 of the NATO treaty: 

: "The Parties will consult together whenever, in the opinion of any of them, the territorial integrity, political independence or security of any of the Parties is threatened." This article opens a round of consultations but 

does not immediately include defensive-minded decisions.

Many of these publishers would claim that their intention is not to cause trouble, but their actual actions speak for themselves.

I'm assuming that many of you had the same experience, without even having the same media outlets as me or living in the same country as me.

The reason I say that is because many of the people I talk to showed displeasure, anxiety, melancholy, and fear (to varying degrees) in response to some media outlets' dishonest behavior. 

Thus, after spending some days informing myself, I can now come to objectively describe the current situation without the sentimentalism that is causing us to lose our heads.

Because all we've gotten is generalized information and sentimentalist headlines that read something like this: 

"Two Russian missiles have crashed into Polish soil, near the border with Ukraine. The explosion claimed the lives of two people. NATO will get involved."

All of Ukraine is getting ready for one very, very cold winter. The story isn't too much about the missiles that hit Poland, it's about the other 83 that hit the key energy infrastructures and caused power cuts that won't be solved anytime soon. 

But that's not really on anyone's social media....

The attacks knocked down power for 10 million people nationwide and produced city-wide outages. 

Around half of Ukraine's energy infrastructure is currently inoperable as a result of the damage, which exacerbated the effects of an earlier wave of strikes in October.

Among the most devastated cities are Kyiv, the capital, and Lviv in western Ukraine, both of which up until this point had mostly escaped the effects of the war. 

On top of that, the first snowfall of the season fell on Thursday, and with frequent below-freezing temperatures predicted for the ensuing three months, Ukrainians are preparing for a harsh winter with insufficient heating.

Some say Russia is making up for tactical defeats, notably a retreat this week from the southern city of Kherson, the only significant city held by Russia since the February invasion. 

The Poland story was never going to cause WW3... Even if the missiles were Russian, it still wasn't a full-blown invasion. NATO won't go to war over a mistake, and de-escalation has been their narrative for the past months. 

On the other hand, 10M people without electricity in one of the coldest regions on Earth? I think that's the real story.
