Will the state of the border continue to define the state of the relationship ?

India and China held the 27th in-person "frank and open" diplomatic talks concerning the LAC border dispute under the 

Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination on India-China Border Affairs, 

a special institution created for furthering the diplomatic dialogue on the border issues between India and China

The Indian and Chinese troops are now in the third year of the standoff along the LAC Western Sector of Ladakh. The only visible solution to decrease the tensions is diplomatic engagement rather than a protracted military impasse.

Both sides assessed the situation in the western sector of LAC The Indian delegation, led by Shilpak Ambule, Joint Secretary (East Asia) from the Ministry of External Affairs, engaged with the Chinese delegation led by Hong Liang, Director General of the Boundary and Oceanic Affairs Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The key outcome of the meeting was that both sides agreed to continue the dialogue at the earliest during the 19th round of High-Level Military Talks where a detailed discussion of the ground level can be expected with an objective of restoring peace and tranquillity in the border region.

The Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) was initially proposed by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao in 2010 and later established as an institution in January 2012 during Special Representative Talks between India and China.

The meeting can be perceived as an extension of a ministerial-level dialogue that occurred between Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and his Chinese counterpart Li Shangfu, on the sidelines of the SCO.
