India recently participated in the QUAD Leaders' Summit on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, from May 19 to 21. It is symbolic and meaningful as India holds the G20 Presidency this year. During the summit India made sure that voices and concerns of the Global South are tabled at a G7 meeting in front of advanced economies around the world.

On the sidelines of the summit, May 20th also marked the first high-level meeting between PM Modi and Ukrainian President Zelensky since the Ukraine conflict started last year. In a multipolar international world order, it is indeed a tightrope walk for India's diplomacy, especially in the context of the Ukraine conflict. It is a moment of diplomatic clarity, fine-balancing, and the exercise of strategic autonomy for India. 

Furthermore, India has clearly emphasised the importance of resolving conflicts through dialogue and diplomacy while simultaneously calling for reforms in global multilateral institutions, including the United Nations.

India, as a leader of the global south and current chair of the G20, takes cognizance of the impact that various global issues have had on the food, fuel, and fertiliser requirements of countries, especially those of emerging market economies.
