Imran Khan, the former celebrity cricketeer turned politician and former prime minister of Pakistan, has maintained his electoral dominance after being 

The 70-year-old leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf 

 ran in seven and won six of the eight National Assembly seats up for grabs in Sunday's by-elections. 

The remaining two seats were gained by representatives of the Pakistan People's Party (PPP), a member of the ruling coalition.

Nevertheless, a candidate is permitted to run for more than one seat in Pakistani elections, but if they are the winners of more than one seat, 

they must pick only one and forfeit the others.

The seats were made vacant after a large number of PTI lawmakers resigned in April, after Khan and his administration had been overthrown by a legislative 

Khan claimed he was the victim of a "foreign conspiracy," placing the blame on the American government. Washington has refuted these claims.

But in reality, there is no proof of such allegations. But there is proof of the relationship he has with the military.

Over the course of Pakistan's 75-year history, the army has dominated the 220 million-person country and is regarded as its main source of power.

With the backing of the Pakistan Army, which continues to be the dominant institution in the nation, Khan rose to become the head of the Pakistani government. He was 

 loved by the public, the dynastic political families who had the control of the government could not beat Khan's outsider status and populist appeal as a former cricket star.

But while in office, his lack of governmental expertise and 

 became an issue with the army's top leaders. 

Conflicts erupted in October when Khan attempted to prevent the appointment of a new director for the nation's intelligence agency in favor of an incumbent he prefered.

When Imran Khan was ousted, Shehbaz Sharif 

 the new PM.  He obtained the fewest votes of any prime minister in Pakistani history in the legislature. 

Sharif, one of Pakistan's most seasoned government officials, served as Punjab's chief minister three times. He is also the younger brother of four-term prime leader Nawaz Sharif, who was ousted from office five years ago and is still in exile.

However, Sharif's administration is a coalition made up of seven parties with various political agendas that 

do not have a similar set of political priorities. 

The new administration's term in office will also be incredibly brief. Elections must be held no later than October 2023, though they probably take place sooner. Khan is pushing for them to be hel as soon as possible. 

Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza were charged with laundering millions of rupees. This has been one of the biggest arguments for Khan and his supporters. 

In November 2020, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Lahore accused Sharif and his two sons, Hamza and Suleman, of laundering 16.3 billion rupees (almost $200 million) between 2008 and 2018 through 28 bank accounts that did not have the account holders' names on them.

, Shahbaz Sharif, the prime minister, and his son were cleared of corruption and money laundering accusations brought in 2020 by a Pakistani court. Still, the damage is done.

"No one can imagine how many assets and properties Nawaz possesses abroad."

The opposition Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) party's communication secretary, Marriyum Aurangzeb, charges Khan with 

"Everyone in our party was thrown in jail after Khan took office, and every day we used to wait for the news of who was next," Aurangzeb 

. He targeted the journalists, businesspeople, the opposition, and all political parties, believing that he would be successful if he jailed everyone.

The prime minister, a vocal opponent of the West, has incorporated anti-Americanism into his political identity. In 2020, he made the controversial claim that 

the United States had "martyred" Osama bin Laden

. He supported the Taliban takeover when Kabul fell in August of last year and said the Afghan people 

had "broken the chains of enslavement" by defeating the U.S.

 brought attention to the Kremlin's changing relationship with Islamabad, which has taken a neutral stance in the crisis, by arriving in Moscow on the day that Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized the invasion of Ukraine. Khan was there on an official visit.

The president did not emphasize that he does not support this invasion. 

The country is currently dealing with serious economic issues, such as falling foreign exchange reserves, as well as the fallout from record 

 that killed more than 1,700 people and affected over 33 million people. The government places the price tag for flood damage between $30 billion and $40 billion.
